Cays and Settlements
The Islands of The Bahamas are home to more species of rare rock iguanas than any other Caribbean island nation. On your next trip to Long Island you can see them thriving in their natural habitat.
Most of these Bahamian rock iguanas populate the dry scrub forests and beaches of small desolate islands, including nearby Sandy Cay. Each of these species is unique to the island which they inhabit, with colours ranging from solid gray to a kaleidoscope of green, orange, red, blue, yellow and pink.
Visitors can take a boat tour along Long Island's coast and then head off shore to Sandy Cay, which happens to be the same location where the blockbuster Hollywood movie 'Pirates of the Caribbean' was shot. On Sandy Cay you will spend most of your time contemplating the vastness of the beach, exploring the island and meeting the resident iguanas. You might even find some hidden treasure or see the ghost of Captain Jack Sparrow!
